This Whole Day is a Mess!

If you are an email subscriber, you may have read my recent post about how I have decided to "Mess UP." Not too long ago, I picked up a delicious book: A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder - How Crammed Closets, Cluttered Offices, and on-the-Fly Planning Make the World a Better Place.  Although I do not subscribe to the same world view as the authors, the case studies are absolutely amazing, I am more convinced than ever that a little mess is okay (especially for a busy mom!).

Let me tell you about my mess of a day the other day, and see what you think:

-I was up all night two nights before due to multiple wakeups by my son, including a sheet change episode, and had an exhausting day the day before.
-I got up relatively early anyway to work.
-My computer would not boot up at all when I got up.
-I hadn't done the dishes the night before (remember the exhausting day?) and those dishes hung around in my sink, all over my counter and bar until 1:30.
-I discovered something important I had ordered online was backordered.
-I was in my PJs until at least two PM!

Here's what I GOT DONE that day:

-Subscribed eight new people to my list who requested to be on it the day before.
-Worked out!
-Made eight or ten phone calls and set up half a dozen appointments.
-Announced a contest for a local group of women to earn access to one of my audio trainings.
-Used a piece of paper to jot down my ideas for this article (remember the computer problem?).
-Played baseball with my son (Yes, I actually went OUTSIDE in my PJs with a vest thrown over the top, and sneakers!).
-Delivered the offending computer to my technogeek husband.
-Called to modify my backorderd order.
-Vacuumed and mopped downstairs, and wiped surfaces in two out of three bathrooms.
-Went on bike ride with my family!

What is missing from this picture? A whole lot of fussing, fuming, frustration, and icky feelings about the dishes, the PJs, and general fatigue, right?

FOCUS is what makes the difference! Do you really want to be organized? Or is it focus you are looking for in the long run?
